I have had my Suunto Vector since the mid 90’s and it has been rock solid.  Now that I am all grown up I wanted to go out and reward myself with the latest and greatest from Suunto so I picked up the new Suunto X10m.  Simply put I couldn’t be happier.  The service from backcountrytime.com was fantastic and they delivered as advertised.  The included software with the Suunto X10m is also fantastic.

I wasn’t sure if the GPS on the X10 would perform as well as some of the handheld models I have used in the past.  After my first week in the field with the Suunto X10 I am happy to report that they GPS performed perfectly.  I had no problems with the Suunto X10 acquiring a signal even under some heavy tree canopies.  All in all I am very satisfied with the Suunto X10 as its great that you get solid GPS functionality along with all of the other Suunto ABC features that come standard in the Suunto Watch product line.

Ok.  I recently bought the Suunto X10 and here is this Summary of my experience so far.  Once the watch starts communicating with the satellites and locks your position it will track you anywhere.  My Suunto X10 has actually worked quite well under dense canopy cover as well as in some pretty deep reviews. Actually despite what I read prior to purchasing the Suunto X10 it actually seems to work quite well in a car… probably the only place I have a problem with is indoors which I guess is to be expected.  I most often use the Suunto X10 to navigate pre configured routs to find waypoints.  The track back function is also extremely useful and has already saved me some pain and suffering.  I have monkeyed with the altimeter and barometer and they seem to work fine even though I am admittedly not a heavy user of those features.  All and all the Suunto X10 is a pretty sleek piece of equipment.
